Lessons from sickness

Friday, March 26, 2010

I have been sick since last Sunday: throat ulcer, sore throat, followed by headache, and fever. Not fun! My poor baby has been spending a lot of time in front of the computer watching VeggiTales on Youtube because mommy didn't have the energy to play with him.

Thank God the ulcer went away in two days, which leave me with sore throat + on and off headaches and fever. Thank God for my dear husband who wholeheartedly jumped in and take care everything after long day at work and studying for his certification.
Thank God for my dear sister Fonda who offer to babysit Max when we need her the most. Chris said Fonda's house is like Max's second home. He feels so comfortable with the people and the place.

I asked God what he wants me to learn through this sickness. And here is what I heard from Him so far:
1. I need to spend time and nurture my intimate relationship with God. I feel like a kid whose daddy gave her a very nice toy. The kid got too busy taking care and playing with the toy that she neglect her relationship with her daddy. In my case, I often too tired at the end of the day to spend time in my personal prayer with God not just when praying with Max.
2. To be grateful for our health and take a good care of it by eating healthy food, exercising and getting enough rest.
3. To give thanks and enjoy each moment we spend with our love ones for it's God's gift.
4. To go out and enjoy God's beautiful creation! If you know me, I'm more of homebody who enjoy to be home than outside - unless it's necessary. I don't mind spending the weekend at home, cleaning, reading book, catching up some sleep, but my family need to be outside and I need to be outside! After all, God created this beautiful earth for us to nurture and enjoy.
I wake up feeling much better today. No fever just little bit headache and sore throat. Oh how I miss to be healthy, to be able to pick up my 25 pounds baby, to run around and play with him, to be able to hug and kiss him without being afraid of him getting sick; to have the energy to do things I usually do without asking other people's help but I'm grateful for this sickness and for the lesson I learned. God is good!

"Your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body."
1 Corinthians 6:19-20
