Homemade BBQ Teriyaki Pizza

Friday, July 23, 2010

I was inspired to make a homemade pizza after reading this missionary blog post. I thought if they can make a homemade pizza in a far away island in Indonesia I should be able to do so, right? Yanny e-mailed me few weeks ago about her eating my red soup with Maui Zaui pizza, which she highly recommended so I went goggling for that pizza recipe. After seeing the pizza making photos from the pioneer woman blog; I even more encouraged to give it a try. Turned out making pizza is much easier than I thought. And the benefit of making it ourselves is we can put anything that we want.

I took summer class in Italy back in my college years. The Italians are very proud of their delicious thin crust pizza unlike the common American pizza. Chris also like the thin crust one better so here is my first thin crust pizza before it goes to the oven:

Ahhh... so good. All gone in 30 minutes

Someone couldn't wait for the pizza to cool off. He kept looking and blowing... looking and blowing.... looking and blowing... meanwhile mommy and daddy had a great time laughing

Homemade BBQ Teriyaki Pizza
Pizza Crust (to make 2 pizza crusts)
Ingredients:
1 1/3 cups warm milk
1 teaspoon active dry yeast
1 teaspoon salt
1 Tb sugar
3 ½ cups bread flour
1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
2 Tb olive oil

Directions:
1. Mix together all the ingredients in a mixing bowl then start kneading - I use kitchen aid with a dough hook attachment set at speed 1.
2. Knead for about 20-30 minutes until the dough is no longer sticky. Divide the dough into 2 portions. If you don't want to bake 2 pizza at once, you can put one portion inside the Ziploc bag then save it in the fridge 'till it's ready to be used.
3. Preheat oven to 400 degree Fahrenheit.
4. Roll out and press down onto a greased pizza pan (I used regular broiler pan covered with aluminum foil) then bake the pizza crust for 10 minutes.

Pizza topping ingredients:
1 pizza crust {half of the above portion}
Olive oil for brushing
1 heaping cup of shredded mozzarella cheese
2-3 Roma tomatoes, sliced and peppered
1 red onion, sliced
1 small can of pineapple - sliced
1/2 package of sliced ham - cut into small pieces
5 slices of fried bacon - sliced thin
Teriyaki
sauce

BBQ sauce
Add anything you like: mushroom, Parmesan cheese, etc...

Directions:
1. Brush the crust with olive oil
2. Add topping. I found that it's better to put 1/3 portion of the cheese on the bottom, top with the other ingredients, then add the rest of the cheese on the top that way the topping stick to the crust.
3. Bake the pizza at 375 F for 10 minutes, rotate the pizza then bake for another 10 minutes
4. Serve Immediately
