A Place of Quiet Rest

Thursday, August 12, 2010

Two days ago I woke up late. The kids' grandma was back already so I don't feel the pressure of getting a lot of things done before the 3 kids arrived. But you know what? That day I barely get anything done. Somehow Max kept ignoring my instruction, spilled things, peed on the floor, etc...
I was emotionally drained. "What's wrong? I could handle 4 kids, how come I feel so stressful with just one?" I wondered. Then I recalled these two poems below from Nancy Leigh DeMoss' book:  A Place of Quiet Rest. Ahhhh.... now I know why: I didn't sit down long enough to let His Words and Spirit fills me.

There He was just waiting in our old familiar place;
An empty spot beside Him where I once used to wait
To be filled with strength and wisdom for the battles of the day.
I would have passed Him by again, but I clearly heard Him say,
"I miss My time with you, those moments together.
I need to be with you each day, and it hurts me when you say you are too busy;
busy tryin' to serve Me.
But how can you serve Me, when your spirit's empty?
There's a longing in My heart, wanting more than just a part of you.
It's true; I miss my time with you." - Larnelle Harris and Phil McHugh

I met God in the morning
When my day was at its best,
And His presence came like sunrise,
Like a glory in my breast.

All day long the presence lingered,
All day long, He stayed with me,
And we sailed in perfect calmness
O'er a very troubled sea.

Other lives were blown and battered,
Other lives were sore distressed,
But the winds that seemed to drive them
Bring to us a peace and rest.

Then I thought of other mornings,
With a keen remorse of mind,
When I too had lossed the moorings,
With presence left behind.

So I think I know the secret,
Learned from many troubled way:
You must seek Him in the morning,
If you want Him through the day! - Ralph Saulding Cushman

"If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him." James 1:5
